Questions to Bring to Your Aesthetic Consultation

You do not need to arrive at an aesthetic consultation knowing which treatment you want. A useful starting point is knowing what you would like to understand. This question guide helps you organise your thoughts before a visit to Nuva Aesthetics in Narellan, without choosing a procedure in advance.

Your quick question checklist

  • What options, if any, relate to my individual concerns?
  • Why is this approach being considered, and what alternatives can we discuss?
  • What expectations are realistic, and what limitations apply?
  • What potential risks should I understand?
  • What preparation, recovery and aftercare would be involved?
  • What follow-up arrangements apply, and who should I contact with concerns?

Save these questions to your phone or write down the ones that matter most to you. This is a discussion guide, not individual treatment advice.

Have several concerns to organise? Use our guide to organising your consultation questions, including a copyable notes template for your priorities, observations and next steps.

Start by explaining your goals

Describe what you have noticed and what you want to discuss in your own words. You do not need to translate a concern into a treatment name or decide on a quantity before an assessment.

Useful questions include: “How does this option relate to the concern I have described?” and “What would this approach not address?” These keep the conversation focused on your individual circumstances rather than another person's experience.

Ask about suitability and alternatives

Ask what information is needed to assess suitability and what alternatives can be discussed. Raise questions about previous treatment or your circumstances with the clinician rather than assuming a service listing confirms that you can proceed.

If you are still choosing an appointment, read Consultation Only or a Treatment Appointment: Which Should You Book? It explains the distinction between discussion-only, service-focused and review sessions.

Clarify expectations, not just the intended change

Ask what changes are realistic, what limitations apply and what uncertainty you should understand. A reference photograph can help explain a question, but it is not a promise that another person's appearance can be reproduced.

Try asking: “What would you want me to understand before deciding?” and “How would we review the outcome of a proposed plan?” A consultation does not guarantee treatment suitability or a particular result.

Understand practical requirements

Before planning around work, travel or an event, ask about preparation, potential recovery and aftercare for the specific service being considered. Different services may have different requirements; this article does not provide universal timelines.

  • What instructions would I need before the appointment?
  • What might affect my usual activities afterwards?
  • When would I receive aftercare instructions?
  • What should I do if I have questions after leaving?

Ask your clinician for individual guidance. Do not change skincare, medicines or other health arrangements based on this general checklist.

Leave with clear next steps

Before the discussion ends, clarify what has been proposed, what remains undecided and whether another appointment is needed. Ask who to contact if you think of another question later.

If several sessions or services are discussed, ask what each step is intended to address and how progress would be reviewed. Do not assume that multiple treatments are necessary or can be completed together.

A discussion-only starting point at Nuva Aesthetics

The consultation with RN Catherine provides 30 minutes to discuss your goals, assess suitability and explore options. No treatment is performed during this session.

If your questions relate to a specific service, you can also read the facial-lines consultation, lip consultation or SkinPen® microneedling listing before asking the clinic which appointment is appropriate.
